Sharing and Preserving Clayoquot Sound

Clayoquot Sound is undeniably one of Canada’s most precious jewels. The abundance of life here is miraculous. And luckily, for us, Tofino sits right in the middle of it. The Pacific Rim Highway makes it convenient and possible for us to access this beautiful wonder of nature. We are very privileged to be able to visit and reside in this beautiful setting with so many amazing creatures. It is important to recognize this privilege and the preserve the delicate Clayoquot Sound for future generations. There are a few things you can do while visiting Tofino, to make sure your foot print is minimal while you have one of the most amazing experiences of your life.

One of the easiest; when you go to the beach, leave absolutely nothing behind. Never assume someone else will pick up your garbage or recycling. Better yet, on your way off the beach, pick up a piece or two of garbage someone else has left behind. Hey, it’s good Karma.

Leave your camp site the way you found it. We’re not just talking garbage here. Try not to hack down any under brush or trees. This is home to a lot of little critters. They are sharing with you. You are the guest. Respect that.

Don’t feed the animals. Especially the black bears. Keep your food locked up in your car (not just in your cooler, bears are smart). When bears become accustomed to humans through food, they begin to seek it out. This increases the chance of a human/bear confrontation. Not pretty. Be BEAR AWARE. If you want to see a bear up close and personal, hop on one of our Bear Watching Tours this August.

Smile and take tons of pictures. Enjoy your time here. If you would like further information on how to protect Clayoquot Sound check out Friends of Clayoquot Sound.
