Trusted Family Vessel

June 15th, 2011

Now the West Coast Aquatic Safaris has NANUQ, the 36 passenger vessel back in service I decided to take my two and a half year old daughter out on the water.  We have been bear watching in the past and went out with Captain Tim aboard WASCO the 12 passenger vessel.  That experience made such an impact on my daughter that she has a real soft spot for Bears, Boats and Tim.

Today was a GREAT day for whale watching

June 12th, 2011

The sun showed up. The whales showed up. The bears showed up… and more!

A sign of good things to come...

I came into work expecting a pretty normal day; it turned into anything other than that.  Word on the street (and in the ocean) is that 3 sperate pods of transient orcas were in the Tofino Inlet yesterday, and apparently they stayed around all night.  The sun was shinning and as I was able to leave the office in the very capable hands of our newest addition to the team, Kayla, I hopped aboard WASCO.

Hot Springs Cove Trips Return

June 7th, 2011

The season has been off to an exceptional start with many incredible sightings of just about everything under the sun ans swimming in the ocean.  With Keith and the crew in Port Angeles right now to bring back NANUQ, it is just a few more days until we will be able to offer daily trips to Hot Springs Cove as well as whale and bear watching.  With NANUQ our 36 passenger vessel returning it would seem as though there is much more room for walk on traffic however, as we get closer to school getting out both the town and our tours will be much busier.

Canucks and The Cup

May 31st, 2011

If you’ve been around Tofino in the past few weeks, you’ve likely noticed an eerie occurrence on certain evenings. Our normally bustling town seems to clear out, and you can almost see the tumbleweed rolling down the empty streets. However, if you were to make your way down to Shelter Restaurant or the Weigh West Pub, you would find an entirely different scene. It seems as though every single Tofitian and visitor to our area has congregated in front of the big-screen TVs, to passionately cheer on their favourite hockey team, the Vancouver Canucks.

The Return of Nanuq

May 27th, 2011

As May swiftly disappears, I’m amazed to find that another winter season has faded away, with summer’s excitement nipping at its heels.  Grey, humpback, and orca whales are already busily feeding off our coastline, and clumsily adorable baby black bears are emerging from the forest to explore the seafood treats revealed at low tide.

With the return and re-awakening of local wildlife, comes the anticipation of another familiar presence on the water.  Our ultra-fast, exceedingly comfortable 36-passenger catamaran Nanuq has spent most of the winter away, getting a slight facelift to make her even more efficient in the local conditions.  She is currently receiving the finishing touches, and will be returning to Tofino shortly, to join Wasco in running tours for West Coast Aquatic Safaris.

Why Tofino is Awesome: Food

May 16th, 2011

Last week I mentioned a bit about why I think Tofino is such a great place to call home.  Unquestionable natural beauty and an abundance of exquisite wildlife are just a few reasons why I love this Tuff town so much.  Our waters, incredibly rich in food for visiting cetaceans and furry friends alike, also provide some of the best meals for humans locally and visiting from afar.

For such a small town, I think that Tofino should be proud to boast some of the most exquisite dinning not only in BC or Canada…but I reckon, the world!  Access to the freshest seafood possible in conjunction with exceptional talent in the kitchen, spoils this town for choice and quality.

Changes at our main office!

May 13th, 2011

As summer fast approaches, things are getting busy at West Coast Aquatic Safaris!  We are giving WASCO one last overhaul before May Long Weekend and the sounds of hammers and woodcutters can be heard throughout the office!  Despite the rain, our construction team is hard at work outside our 4th Street office enhancing our building.

The sun was shinning on the first day of construction on the ramp

With NANUQ being wheelchair accessible we have also made the decision to make our building wheelchair and stroller friendly with the inclusion of a ramp!  We feel that it is important that everyone can join us on our Hot Springs, whale and bear watching excursions and that including this ramp will facilitate that.

Why Tofino is awesome: Furry Friends

May 10th, 2011

Up close and personal with the bears, but still at a safe distance aboard the boat!

Last week I highlighted one of the reasons why I think Tofino is one of the best places on Earth.  Sea creatures such as whales and cetaceans, sea lions, otters, and seals all play a vital role in the biodiversity of the area that help make up the natural beauty of Tofino.  However, while these creatures may spend most of their time in the water, they are not the only ones dependent on it. There is an array of furry faced wildlife that surround us in the Pacific Rim area that use the ocean as a means for survival.  From Wickaninnish Beach to Vargas Island, bears, wolves, cougars and deer visit the beach to forage for food that the Pacific Ocean supplies.

Guarantee your Experience

May 7th, 2011

When it comes to planning your adventure the last thing one wants to do is short change themselves. As we start looking at the calendar to figure out when we can sneak away for a much needed getaway and a burst of excitement from our busy schedules, the first thing we think about is booking our accommodations.  We then start looking around at what to do and where is the best places to do all the amazing things on our bucket list. We make a great list of everything and start planning what order we should do them and often times we think about something like marine adventure being the grand finally or the perfect end to the vacation.

So Much To Look Forward To

May 6th, 2011

Welcome back!

With April behind us we are now rapidly approaching summer and all of the incredible things that come with it. The last thing we would want to do though is skip past all of the wonderful things that May and June have in store for us. Our 1st Annual Feast BC will kick off in a couple of days and is an action packed 29 days and nights of culinary adventure.

West Coast Aquatic Safaris is excited to say that our First Class Vessel & Private Chef tours on May 19th and 24th are selling well. There are still some seats available for either day for those that want to experience something unique.
