BIRD WATCHING TOURS

Bear watching with West Coast Aquatic Safaris

West Coast Aquatic Safaris is thrilled to be offering bird watching on board WASCO. This tour will depart first thing in the morning and will be facilitated with not only a well educated and informed skipper, but also with a professional bird guide. Our bird guide has an extensive background in bird research and conservation, bird guiding and outdoor recreation and education. He started birding in the 1960s and has led birding tours in Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, California, Western Australia, and Canada. Today he is excited to join up with West Coast Aquatic Safaris and provide morning bird tours almost daily.

Every tour is a little different, they are all about two to two and half hours long and take place on board the comfort of WASCO our 12 passenger touring vessel. In the tour we most likely will include a visit to Cleland Island an ecological reserve and spot birds either sitting on the rocks or feeding in mixed species flocks off of the island. Over the two hours you may see Wandering Tattler and Surfbird, Tufted Puffin, Marbled Murrelets, Rhinoceros Auklet, and Black Oystercatchers. As well, during migrations there is the opportunity to see lines of loons and scoters cover the horizon and Harlequin Ducks on the shoreline. This is West Coast Aquatic Safaris first year to offer bird watching tours. With three viewing decks aboard WASCO and the expertise of our bird guide, we are looking forward to the 2009 season!
