Spring is here!

March 25th, 2012

I don’t want to jinx this… but it looks like spring may have arrived. We have been more than lucky to have some sunny skies and smaller swell in perfect time for the Pacific Rim Whale Festival. It seems that the whales have also taken a cue from Mother Nature as they’ve returned to their spring and summer feeding grounds here in Tofino. Trips aboard WASCO and NANUQ have been phenomenal all week long, and so have the wildlife sighting! Jeff scored his first hat

NANUQ is back in action…

March 19th, 2012

NANUQ on dry land for inspections

Throughout the winter months, West Coast Aquatic Safaris takes both of its tour boats out the water to give them a rest, a good tune-up and a fresh coat of paint. Although WASCO usually only stays dry for about a month, we often wait a little longer to put NANUQ back in the water. The time came to ease the 36-passenger catamaran back via the 4th Street Dock last week, and it was my first time experiencing such a site. Due to the shear size of NANUQ, this event can often be a bit of a tricky one. This year, however, it all went off without a hitch… and here’s how it looked.

Cruise in Comfort & Style

March 16th, 2012

With tomorrow being the first day of the Whale Festival West Coast Aquatic Safaris is celebrating with the first tour of the season for NANUQ our 36 passenger catamaran.  This vessel is truly the only one of it’s kind on the Pacific Rim and provides the best possible view and comfort for west coast Adventure.

Conditions have been typical for this time of year which means several feet of swell and often cool wind.  Fortunately for our guest’s NANUQ’s twin hull design provides a more stable ride and the large cabin offers the perfect shelter from wind and rain.  Enjoy the view from the large sliding windows as you travel to and from the willife and follow your track through Clayoquot Sound on the GPS charts displayed on the flat screen.

If you are planning on being in Tofino or Ucluelet for this period be sure to check out all of the activities and events going on. There is a great mix of events for both adults and childeren for the dureation of the Festival.

Off To a Great Start

March 7th, 2012

Well into our first week and West Coast Aquatic Safaris is off to a great start.  For our season opener we had an excellent day and managed to find our guests 6 or 7 Grey Whales.  The following day a couple of hungry Transient Killer Whales in search of the next meal as well as a few nervous Sea Lions.

This early in the season the sightings can be as exciting as any time of the year.  The weather and sea conditions can at times be a little unpredictable however our skilled captains and vessels designed for typical Tofino conditions will make sure that you and your family have the best time possible on the West Coast.

Whale Festival Almost Here

February 29th, 2012

The 26th Annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival is now just around the corner.  With similar such festivals in California celebrating the departure of the Grey Whales from their area, the Pacific Rim is set to officially welcome the magnificent creatures back to our area.

West Coast Aquatic Safaris is very excited to announce that with a picturesque day in Tofino we now have WASCO our 12 passenger vessel back in the water and ready to go for our first trip of the season on March 3rd.  While Whale Festival officially celebrates the return of the whales, we have actually been seeing them in local waters already.  With Greys spotted around the Long Beach area and Transient Orcas in several areas over the last couple of weeks we are anxious to get going.

Special Memories & Private Charters

February 25th, 2012

For many years now Tofino has been seen as a place for adventure and romance.  There are so many wonderful things to do as a group or for couples.  This year West Coast Aquatic Safaris want to offer you the chance to create your own special memories and take a private charter on one of our two special boats to do so.

For couples or groups up to 36 people, WCAS has the perfect boat for your little getaway.  Whether you are looking to do a whale or bear watching trip and just have the boat to yourself or wanting to drift in a tranquil bay while watching the sunset as you propose to your loved one, the team at Aquatic safaris can work with you to to make your magical moment a reality.

Safe Boating!

February 24th, 2012

When it comes to choosing who you and your family are going to travel with on the water, the same amount of consideration should be taken as if you were going to fly.  There are many things to consider such as comfort, safety, training and certification and of coarse the best possible view!

From the first day of it’s creation, West Coast Aquatic Safaris has been designed and operated by Owner Keith Phillips with safety, comfort and value as it’s priorities.  Each Vessel, WASCO and NANUQ have been built to meet or exceed all Transport Canada Safety regulations and we continue to consult with TC on what new technology and training will be most valuable for the future.
