Hot Springs Tours

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Our Hot Springs Tours in the last couple of days have been amazing. Tim, the driver of WASCO, has shown our guests grey whales, humpback whales, sea otters and black bears during the commute to Hot Springs Cove, North of Tofino.  We’ve had many guests drop by the office upon their arrival back from the Hot Springs to rave about the boat ride  and our driver Tim, who is always overflowing with knowledge of the West Coast. The ride to Hot Springs Cove, in our boat WASCO, is approximately 2 hours in duration. Once you arrive at the cove you have about 3 hours to take in the beauty, then back on the boat for another 2 hours for the return trip. And as you can tell the journey is just as beautiful as the destination. Hats off to Tim for turning our Hot Springs Tours into Hot Springs Cove Adventures.

WASCO and NANUQ

WASCO

NANUQ, our newest addition.

West Coast Aquatic Safaris’ newest addition to the family, NANUQ, is settling in nicely. She’s a 36 passenger catamaran with an outdoor upper deck that seats 12, a cozy heated cabin; on the lower deck; for everyone, and three outdoor viewing decks for guests to immerse themselves in the west coast experience.  NANUQ means “Master of Bears” in the Inuit language. NANUQ lives up to her powerful name with her 38 foot double hull, her twin 500 HP Volvo Pentas, and her awesome presence. Our entire crew is falling in love with her and she is sparking intrigue and excitement with our guests. This season, NANUQ is used mainly for our Whale Watching and Bear Watching tours. NANUQ has arrived to officially create a fleet here at West Coast Aquatic Safaris, and she is a perfect compliment to our 12 person vessel WASCO.

Our Team On The Water

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Over the course of the next week West Coast Aquatic Safaris would like to introduce out team for the season.  With the arrival of our new vessel NANUQ we will begin with Diana who can be seen in this photo swimming with the whales.

NANUQ and The Bears

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Our conditions were superb this morning for a fantastic time on the Bear Watch Tour.  The deep inside waters in Clayaquot Sound provide deep calm bays for NANUQ and her dual hull design to get up close and personal.  This morning we departed at 7:00 am to catch the tide at its lowest providing ample space for the Black Bears to forage for their meal.  Today was particularly good and the group were able to find 3 adult bears and 8 cubs.

Welcome Aboard

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

This is the second day in service for NANUQ, the newest vessel for West Coast Aquatic Safaris and Clearly the best in the west.  NANUQ has already seen lots of Grey and Humpback Whales, Black Bears and just about anything else that swims or walks in the West Coast.  As part of the celebration of the Arrival of NANUQ we have been giving away free trips on every voyage.

Welcome To Tofino

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Last evening was a special night in Tofino.  As Keith and Jeff returned from Victoria with NANUQ they made a quick stop in the Ucluelet Harbour to pick up some of the West Coast Aquatic Safaris staff, families and a few friends.  We departed from Ucluelet at approximately 8 pm for a very exciting trip in the 4 meter swell seas but an otherwise beautiful evening.  NANUQ has many of the same features as WASCO but on a more grand scale.  The seats are high back and very comfortable.  The staircase to the upper deck is very well suited families and individuals of all ages.  There were two passengers on board last night with small children and strollers and the walk through gate to access the boat made boarding a breeze with all of the extra items.

A Perfect Bear Watch

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

This morning was off to a perfect start.  Our 7 am bear watching tour had the good fortune of finding two separate groups of Black Bears.  Each group was a cow and 3 cubs out on the rocky beaches eating crabs and playing in the sun.  Some of the guests commented on what a unique experience it is to be able to witness the bears in their own natural environment without being disturbed by anything. Early this afternoon, Tim WASCO and the group managed to locate 3 Grey Whales before the wind picked up and they headed into the inside waters. This evening WASCO will be heading out for her first sunset Whale Watch tour of the season.  It should be a spectacular night as the breeze dies off.

Oh What A Place

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

We have been treated to picturesque weather and sea conditions for this Edge to Edge Marathon weekend.  Today has been one of the best days of the Year for Tofino.  The sun has been shining all day at close to 20 degrees with just a very slight breeze.  We have had many Grey Whales in the Long Beach area again and this afternoon Tim, WASCO and the group found a lone Humpback up closer to Cow Bay.

Oh What a Weekend

Friday, June 11th, 2010

The forecast is looking good with some of the warmest days in a while, sunshine, lots of whales and of coarse FIFA World Cup Soccer.  It has already started out to be a great weekend.  We have had three trips today which means three people have received a full refund as part of our celebration of Spring and the Arrival of NANUQ.  We have had a healthy mix of Grey Whales and Humpbacks as well a quite a few Sea Lions.
